DEGREE
REQUIREMENTS FOR M.S. IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
A total of ten
(3-credit) courses is the minimum required for the M.S. in
Computer Science. Of these, no more than
six credits may be for an approved research project. Such projects
are open to well-qualified students with the
permission of the Director. Students may take at most six credits
of foundation courses. The following core courses,
or their equivalent, are required of all students in the program:
- CSC 4015
Design and Analysis of Algorithms
- CSC 4025
Operating Systems Design
- CSC 4135
Theory of Computation: Automata and Formal Languages
or CSC
4145 Theory of Computation: Computability and Decideability
- CSC 4055
Modern Computer Architecture
- CSC 4085
Introduction to Software Engineering
A student who
receives a grade lower than a B in a core course must
retake the course.
CONCENTRATION
IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
The Master of
Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Information
Systems Management is directed
towards the production of computer professionals with managerial
competence. As the use of computers in
businesses becomes more commonplace, it will be necessary to have
management-level executives with sound computer
skills as well as management training.
The program
combines courses from the Master’s program in Computer Science
with managerial courses. The program
stresses the skills needed to communicate between technically
minded programmers and the application-oriented
user. A total of thirty-six credits is required for the
Information Systems Management concentration.
At least half of the twelve courses presented for graduation must
be CSC courses.
