Admissions Requirements & Procedures

Students seeking admission to the Health Education Program must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, which shows coursework in biology or related field, psychology, and basic education or human development. (A work history in these areas may serve as an equivalent.)

Specific concentration areas have particular requirements:

  • Students selecting the School Nurse concentration must include a copy of RN license. The undergraduate transcript must include a community health nursing course. Work history may serve as an equivalent.

  • Students selecting the Nutrition Marketing concentration must include documentation of Registered Dietitian status or hold a Bachelor’s degree in the field of nutrition.

The department takes a portfolio approach to admission, considering undergraduate grade point average, previous work experience, and a 500-word statement of personal goals and objectives. Prospective students should send the following to the Graduate Admissions Office:

  • a personal statement of goals and objectives;

  • complete and official transcripts of all coursework from each undergraduate and graduate school attended. Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of less than 2.5 are required to take the Graduate Record Examination and submit those scores;

  • three letters of recommendation appraising the applicant’s capacity for studies at the graduate level and leadership potential in the field of health administration;

  • a completed application form accompanied by a non-refundable application fee.

Necessary forms can be obtained either by mail or in person from the Graduate Admissions Office. International students should consult additional requirements described in International Students

If you would like to receive an application, please contact the graduate admission office at 888-SJU-GRAD.  Or you may contact us via e-mail at graduate@sju.edu.
