Other Information:
In addition to dial-up teleconferencing via a PictureTel system, Brown University currently operates a compressed signal videoteleconferencing link to Moscow for educational, government and other non-profit use. The link is realized via the Intersputnik satellite, Stationar 4. Our Russian site is at the Institute for Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since August, Brown has been testing with US sites nationwide having teleconferencing systems. These sites are able to teleconference directly with Moscow using dial-up lines to Brown.

Users of the link have included Brown doctors training Russian physicians in Family Medicine, scientists collaborating on joint space research, and students taking part in round-table discussions. In fall 1993, NASA chose Brown as provider of US-Russian teleconferencing for all NASA and NASA-related sites, routing this activity to Moscow through Brown via the national NASA ViTS network.
