Mission

The Institute for Violence Research and Prevention at Saint Joseph’s is committed to the study of violence in all of its forms with a view to providing insights as to the cause s and possible solutions to this problem. The Institute employs an interdisciplinary approach to the study of youth violence, domestic and intimate violence, and violence in schools, using insights from sociology, criminology, psychology, epidemiology and education. The Institute sponsors research that seeks to integrate theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of violence with a view to expanding our knowledge of the phenomenon and to suggesting strategies for reducing and preventing violence. In particular the Institute is concerned with identifying the risk and protective factors associated with violence in specific instances in line with the overall goal of preventing violence.
