Implementing ACTIVE LEARNING
STRATEGIES is a great way to improve your learning and enhance recall of
information. The following is a list of strategies that many students find
helpful when learning new information.
ORGANIZE INFORMATION: Putting new information
into categories enhances not only your memory but the retrieval of this
information. Group points chronologically, according to similarities,
countries, events, etc... This is an ACTIVE LEARNING strategy for those who
are visual learners.
COLOR CODE: Use a variety of colors
to create vivid visual images. Try color pens, markers, highlighters, post-it
notes, flags, index cards and color paper. Sorting the information according
to color code enhances visual processing. This is an ACTIVE LEARNING strategy
for those who are visual learners.
VISUALS: Charts, graphs,
timelines, mapping or webbing, compare & contrast diagrams. These formats
help transform linear text into concrete visual representations of
information. This is an ACTIVE LEARNING strategy for those who are visual
learners.
MOVEMENTS: Incorporating physical
activity such as writing, pacing, tapping, or dribbling a ball facilitates the
memory process for many students. This is an ACTIVE LEARNING strategy for
those individuals who are kinesthetic learners.
