Crash into Sociology. Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. Sourin Lounge. Presented by Fr. Rick Malloy, SJ, Sociology Department. The movie Crash opened to critical and public acclaim for its inventiveness, its poignant message and its superb cast. Students will have the opportunity at this event to watch Crash once again, but this time from the dual perspectives of sociology and diversity. Fr. Malloy will engage participants in a discussion of the intersection of these two areas following the movie.
Women's Health: Every Woman's Personal Responsibility. Monday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. Second Floor McShain Classroom. Presented by Eve Jacobs, Nurse-Practitioner, Student Health Center. Women will have a centralized and comfortable setting at this program to pose questions and to seek information about two common issues for college women: reproductive health and alcohol. Drawing from many years of practice on Saint Joseph's campus, Eve Jacobs will offer her medical perspective on the issues Saint Joseph's women face--and convey the resources available to women so that they can maintain good health.
Spring Registration and Advising Session. Tuesday, October 23 at 5:30 p.m. (women's hall). LaFarge Lounge. Presented by Maria Beazley, Director of the Haub School of Business Advising Center. The time is near to be thinking about course registration for the spring semester, and as is annually the case, students have many questions and need much direction of how to move through this process. Ms. Beazley will share her wisdom and experience with students, preparing them to be fully informed about registration and ready to select courses when the time comes in early November.
Exorcism: Reality versus Hollywood. Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. St. Mary's Living Room. Presented by Adelmo Dunghe, SJ. The well-known 1973 film The Exorcist set off a firestorm of interest in exorcisms. This program is designed to distinguish the myth from the reality of exorcisms--and to explain the theology and policies of the Church regarding exorcisms. An optional viewing of the film will follow the event.
SJU Top Chef. Tuesday, October 23 from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Williams-Sonoma at the Bellevue, Philadelphia, PA. Presented by Chef Margaret Schaum. For one night students can experience the joy of being a chef. Students will enjoy the hands-on experience of making traditional Italian-American dishes.
Business Hall Trip to Manhattan. Thursday, October 25. All day. The fall Business Hall visit to Manhattan will allow students the opportunity to visit one of two corporations: Merrill Lynch (for accounting and finance majors) and Cline, Davis & Mann, Inc. (for marketing and pharmaceutical marketing majors). Business Hall students will receive a rare inside glimpse into the work life at these corporations. Chartered bus departs from campus at 7:00 a.m. and returns to campus between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Sign-ups for the trip will be managed by the Business Hall Resident Assistants.
