Re: Maguire Campus Planning and Transition Team Update

We are pleased to report that additional progress has been made on the historic acquisition of the Episcopal Academy property adjacent to Saint Joseph’s University. In order to keep the campus community informed of the progress being made, periodic updates will continue to be provided.

First, Episcopal Academy has confirmed that construction is moving ahead on schedule for their new buildings in Newtown Square. Therefore, if all goes as planned, Saint Joseph’s will take possession of the property in the summer of 2008.

Known as Maguire Campus, the plans are in place for the students to utilize the fields and the chapel space, Recreation staff to move into the athletics facilities, and the faculty in the departments of English, Sociology and Education to move into the main classroom building once the renovations are completed.

To accomplish these moves, several phases of renovations will be required. Thus, the schematic design phase is underway. Departmental work teams from the departments of English, Sociology and Education have been active in this phase. In addition, a student work team is involved in designing the Student Commons (the current EA Chapel space), a team from Fine Arts is working on three studio spaces, and an Athletics work team is studying the gym complex and playing fields. The goals of this phase are to meet basic programmatic needs and to assure code-compliance while staying within the established renovation budget.

Fundraising for the endowment to support the Maguire Campus is going well, and the financial analysis required for borrowing is also underway.

Our thanks to all the work team members as well as the Maguire transition team for their involvement in this important planning for the campus expansion.
