Tuition and Fees
IDEPEL is a self contained, 60 credit program leading to an Ed.D. degree and the Pennsylvania Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility. Cohort members are expected to participate in all program coursework, practica, advisement experiences, and related requirements. IDEPEL is NOT a collection of randomly chosen, incidentally connected courses. The cost of each course is based on credit hours and is listed in the Saint Joseph University's Graduate School Catalog. Under certain circumstances, IDEPEL candidates may be required to take a pre-requisite research course prior to entrance into the IDEPEL program.
Financial Aid
Financial aid packages are described in the current Saint Joseph’s University Graduate School Catalog. That publication describes the graduate assistantships, student employment, and low-interest loan packages available. Students are advised to carefully review the information contained in the catalog. Cohort members who expect to apply for assistance through Saint Joseph’s Office of Financial Aid should contact that office as soon as possible to identify the application deadlines.
Enrollment Beyond Four Years
A cohort member who does not complete the program within the four-year time limit is required to apply each semester for continuing program enrollment to the Program Director through the dissertation committee chairperson. If the Program Director approves the application, the cohort member is permitted to register for three credits per fall and spring semesters until all program requirements are met, to a maximum of three calendar years past the expected program completion date. Cohort members may not extend their participation in the program beyond seven years.

Leaves of Absence
It is expected that each cohort member will remain with the cohort in all activities and experiences during the four-year period. In the event a short-term (less than one year) illness or personal crisis forces a cohort member to be physically absent from cohort experiences, that individual may construct a leave of absence plan in concert with the professors of the affected courses and the program director. It is important to note that because of the collaborative, reflective, and dialogic nature of the courses, if an independent study situation is part of the plan, some degree of class attendance must be included in the independent study. In the event the plan is not approved, or if the absence from cohort participation is longer than one year, the individual will be removed from the cohort. However, if the individual leaves the cohort in good academic standing, an opportunity will be provided to enroll in the next cohort and to be excused from tuition costs of (but not from participation in) all strands completed.
