Master of Arts in Writing Studies
Writing Studies Forms
As you work through the Writing Studies program requirements, a number of forms will be required at certain stages. Several key forms are all available for guidance and printing right here in the Writing Studies web site.
First, there is the “Audit Sheet—Writing Studies” form, which indicates all of the required courses (core courses, distribution courses in three areas, electives, thesis credits). You should use this form to keep track of your progress.
Second, there is the “Thesis Application Form,” which you will complete at the point when you are ready to register for credits involved in your thesis project. You and your faculty thesis mentor should carefully work out all the details required on the form, so everyone has a clear understanding of how the project will develop to completion. This form includes a brief set of directions to guide you in setting up the format of your completed thesis: pagination, margins, treatment of front matter, font options—things of that nature. Before you turn this application in to the program director, you should make copies for yourself and your thesis mentor. The form goes into your file in the Department of English office. In order to distribute the work of thesis mentoring fairly throughout the Department of English faculty, we are aiming to limit the number of thesis projects managed by any one person to two or three at a time, with two being the ideal number. At the beginning of the program, you will receive a list of full-time faculty members, with a list of their areas of special interest. As you take courses, you may well find a faculty member whose interests and approach seems to fit nicely with your thesis project, and you should consult with any faculty member who might be a good match for you and your thesis. The program director will gladly assist you in locating a thesis mentor if you have any difficulty in locating a thesis mentor. We will do everything possible to ensure smooth progress toward completion of the degree requirements.
Third, there is the “Thesis Title Page Template,” which shows how to set up your title page, which will be signed by your faculty thesis mentor when the project has been completed to the mentor’s satisfaction. The program director’s signature is required only for thesis projects handled by adjunct faculty.
Finally, there is the “Bindery—Library Form,” which you will complete and take to the Drexel Library when you deliver copies of your signed thesis that will be sent off to the bindery. It usually takes about three weeks for the bindery work. Your program will not be complete—and your degree will not be released—until we have received a bound copy of your thesis.
Additional Forms
To set up credits for your thesis project through the registration process, you will need to complete the “Request Form for Thesis Completion,” which is used in all graduate programs to set up thesis projects. Copies of this form can be obtained in the Department of English main office in Bellarmine 118—as well as in the College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Program Office in Barbelin/Lonergan 110 .
Finally, you will need to register for your degree when you get close to the end of your program, and the form for this process (with no fee) can be obtained at the web site for the Registrar’s Office.
