Courses Taught
Dr. Hennes regularly teaches Second-Year Spanish (1211-1221), Spanish Conversation and Composition (1311-1321), and From the Old World to the New in Hispanic Literature (2011). In addition, she offers upper-division classes on colonial and nineteenth-century Latin America, including Visions of the Vanquished, Commonplaces of Colonial Experience, and Topics in Latin American Cultures.
Research
Her teaching and research interests include:
- Colonial and nineteenth-century Latin American Literature and cultures
- Women in the Wars for Independence in Latin America (specifically Manuela Sáenz and Juana Azurduy)
- The representation of space and gender in early Latin American literature and film
- The construction of cultural icons in literature, visual arts, and popular culture
