Requirements for the Minor
Students seeking a minor in Gender Studies are required to select and complete six courses from the program's listings with no more than two in any one academic discipline. GEN 2901 Seminar in Feminist Theories must be one of the six courses (formerly listed as GEN 1101 Feminist Theory). Students are encouraged, but not required, to take GEN 2951 Selected Topics in Gender Studies as one of the six courses.
Courses Listed under Gender Studies
GEN 2901 Seminar in Feminist Theories (3 credits)
An introduction to new theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of gender in the humanities and the social and natural sciences. Required of all Gender Studies minors; typically offered once a year in the spring semester.
GEN 2951 Selected Topics in Gender Studies (3 credits)
An independent study, typically undertaken in the Senior year, in which the student develops and presents a research project in her or his major field of study which incorporates gender perspectives and feminist theories. Prerequisites: GEN 2901, the approval of an independent study director in the student's major, and the approval of the Director of Gender Studies .
