The American University in Rome (AUR) is located in a prestigious area on the crest of Rome 's highest hill. The campus includes two buildings. The main building is a lovely four-story villa which contains administrative offices, computer lab, student lounges, classrooms, and design and architecture studios. Adjacent to the villa, a newly renovated five-story building houses the library, faculty offices, classrooms, and darkroom and film production laboratory.
Approximately half of the students are in the degree program (enrolled for four years) while the other half are in the study abroad program. The majority of the students are American. Approximately 15% are Italian and 20% are other nationalities.

The Academic Calendar for AUR is very similar to a semester at SJU. Please refer to AUR's website for the exact dates of the program.
HOUSING
The American University of Rome does not possess its own residence halls. Students may elect for AUR to arrange housing on their behalf or may choose to make their own housing arrangements. Students electing university-facilitated housing are placed in furnished apartments or in residences in areas surrounding the university campus. University-facilitated housing can vary greatly in terms of both proximity to the university and aesthetics, though apartments are roughly standardized in terms of basic amenities.
You are responsible for all meals and commuting costs. AUR provides information about housing options once students are accepted into the program.
COSTS
Students will remain registered at SJU and pay SJU tuition for the semester or year they will be studying abroad plus a Continuing Registration Fee of $100. Tuition rates are assessed to a student based on the student's primary matriculation at Saint Joseph 's University as determined by the academic policies of the University.
Housing is paid directly to the American University of Rome. The housing cost is estimated to be from $4,500 - $5,600 depending on options available. Prices typically include a $200-$300 refundable security deposit. Accepted students will receive the AUR Housing Booklet which further describes the housing options for that semester and will also provide exact costs for each option. Meals are not included in the housing fee. Please note that prices quoted in dollars are subject to fluctuations in exchange rates. For the most up to date cost estimates for this program please refer the Financial Information Sheet for this program on file in the Center for International Programs.
