SJU Students and Industry Professionals across Europe have the opportunity to visit Barcelona, Spain to study the strategies of pharmaceutical and healthcare companies that have expanded globally and the implications of their business models. Students may potentially also participate in an Independent Study MPE 770 research project that will fulfill SJU’s elective requirement. Visitors from the local and adjoining areas are welcome.

The Global Cororate Strategy course focuses on the management of multinational corporations (MNCs) with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic companies operating within different global markets. While these international environments imply greater opportunities because MNCs have access to new markets and resources, they also imply greater organizational and managerial challenges. The aim of this course is to investigate whether these challenges are worth it and how they can contribute to a company’s “triple” bottom line. To accomplish this, the course will be held in Spain and assess the opportunities from MNCs operating within that country as well as consider:

  • the strategic imperatives motivating companies to go global;
  • organizational challenges in international markets;
  • the managerial challenges in global environments;
  • planning requirements for successful project implementation
