- Committee Reports
a. Quality of Life, given by Patty Martin – The group is
attempting to develop a mentoring program for new employees.
Childcare is an on-going issue. The group also coordinated 3
continual Weight Watchers sessions in the Spring and also
co-sponsored CPR and self-defense classes. Bob Krotee in Athletics
is offering employees individual health screenings, including body
fat measurement, cholesterol tests and blood pressure
measurements.
b. Training and Development, given by Eileen Fabry – Conducted a
campus-wide Web survey and, as a result, several programs were
suggested. One program that did take place on June 12 and
the topic was effective presentation techniques. About 30 people
attended and the committee received positive feedback from
the evaluations. The committee is planning an R&R/Training
& Development Social to be held later in the summer. The
next meeting of this committee will be Thurs. July 28 in the
Campion 212 conference room.
c.
Community Service/Social Committee, given by Kathy Sullivan –
This group offered a Lenten evening of reflection, similar to the
one for Advent. A light supper was held in the Greaton Room
followed by a prayer service lead by Dr. Margaret Pfeil of the
Theology Department. The committee organized the Photo Booth for
the Hand-in-Hand festival which was held on Saturday, April 7,
2001. Members of the SJU community, including staff,
administrators and faculty, enthusiastically volunteered to take
Polaroid pictures of the guests attending Hand-in-Hand. As
an extension of the Lenten evening of reflection, an on-going
prayer/study/reflection group has been formed, meeting about every
two weeks. After a hiatus during the summer, the group will resume
meeting in September. Anyone in the university is most welcome and
encouraged to join. 4. The next topic was the
Climate Survey Results given by Kathleen Gaval, Vice
President/Assistant to the President. Kathy also spoke briefly
about the status of the Position Evaluation Program. Bev Owsik, representing
the Personnel Compensation Committee, spoke about the Personnel
Compensation Comparative Schools list. Kathy and Bev's entire
presentation can be found at this PowerPoint file: Gaval/Owsik.
5. Kathleen Sullivan then spoke about Administrative/Staff Council
Election Plans. The elections will take place around August 15.
The ASC is investigating the possibility of having the elections
online. If you are interested in running for a position, contact

6. Karin Botto wrapped up the meeting and informed those
attending that they could write down any questions or concerns
about any of the day's topics.
