HUMAN RESOURCE CONFERENCE – BEIJING, CHINA   SEPTEMBER  2002 

On September 25th and 26th, Saint Joseph’s University co-sponsored with the Chinese Ministry of Personnel and its Institute of Public Administration an international human resources management conference in Beijing, China.  The two-day conference, which had more than 100 in attendance, was titled “After China Enters the WTO: Enterprise Human Resource Development.”  Speakers from government, academia, and business, from both the U.S. and China, participated in the conference.  The U.S. delegation organized by Saint Joseph’s consisted of Dr. Gregory Dell’Omo (Vice President for External Affairs), Dr. Joseph DiAngelo (Dean, Haub School of Business), Dr. Weiping Wang (Executive Director, China Programs), the Honorable Harold Stafford (Delaware Secretary of Labor), Dan Lange (General Manager, Business Initiatives, International Operations, Lockheed Martin Aircraft & Logistics Centers), Toshiko “Nami” Kawanami (Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, ACE INA), and Dr. Fangying “Ying” Stephanie Shi (Director, Asia Development, RHR International Company). 

Dr. Dell’Omo presented a paper on “The Evolution of Human Resources in Competitive Organizations: From an Administrative Support Role to Key Strategic Partner.”  He also presented a second paper with Dr. Weiping Wang, titled “Current HRM Practices in China’s State-Owned Enterprises: An American Perspective.”  Dr. DiAngelo presented his paper on “The Role of Business Education in a Market Economy.”  

The conference was covered extensively in national publications.  Two of the major publications were China Human Resources News and China Talent. 

Saint Joseph’s hosted the closing dinner for all conference participants and attendees.
