Scholarships

Merit-Based Academic Scholarships

Each year Saint Joseph's University awards merit-based scholarships to new freshmen who have outstanding academic and achievement records. All students who submit a complete application for admission are considered for merit-based scholarships. The value of the merit scholarships ranges from partial to full-tuition. Typical recipients have a minimum B+ grade point average and have achieved strong SAT or ACT scores. Each year the profile of the scholarship recipients varies based on the applicant pool. The scholarship committee awards the Presidential and University Scholarships, as well as the Achievement Award.

Academy of Food Marketing Scholarships

Awarded to new freshmen who select either the four-year or five-year Food Marketing major. Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The scholarship review takes place in March. Consideration is given to financial need as well as the applicant's academic record and SAT or ACT scores. Food Marketing Scholarships are awarded in addition to any university, state or federal aid a student may receive. More information is available here.

Athletic Scholarships

Saint Joseph's University sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division I level. Athletic scholarships are available in each sport and are awarded by the athletics department. More information is available here.

Board of Trustees Scholarship

Full-tuition and three quarter-tuition scholarships awarded on
a competitive basis. Typical recipients achieved a minimum 3.70 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale and a 1350/1600 SAT or 30 ACT. Recipients of the scholarship are also provided one Summer Scholars experience. A separate application, essay and an on-campus interview are required. Applicants must apply for admission through the Early Action process. The scholarship application deadline is February 1.

SJU Theatre Company - Frank Olley Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to undergraduate students (including incoming freshmen) who are auditioned and selected by faculty artistic directors of the SJU Theatre Company. Decisions are made based upon audition and prior service to SJU Theatre Company as a performer or technical crew member. Auditions are generally scheduled in March of the prior year. Covenant House Scholarship

A full-tuition, room and board scholarship awarded in alternating years to one new freshman who is a member of the Covenant House Pennsylvania Community. The committee looks for applicants who have strong character, a competitive academic background and the potential to succeed in a college environment. This scholarship will be awarded for Fall 2013. Eagles Fly for Leukemia Scholarship

One full-tuition scholarship awarded annually to a new freshman who has survived cancer in his or her lifetime. An application is required. The deadline to apply for admission and this scholarship is October 15. More information is available here.

Father George Ruggieri, S.J. Memorial Scholarship

A partial-tuition scholarship awarded to a student who resides in the Pennsylvania Tri-State Area (PA, NJ, DE) or Brooklyn, NY and declares a major in the Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Physics). Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered. The recipient will be selected through a competitive application process that includes on-campus and off-campus interviews. Applicants are required to apply for admission through the Early Action process. The scholarship application deadline is February 1.


 

Ignatian College Connection/Cristo Rey Scholarship

The Ignatian College Connection program offers one full-tuition scholarship annually to a high achieving student from a high school in the Cristo Rey Network. A separate application is required. Students must demonstrate leadership, commitment to service, and academic excellence.

International Student Scholarship

International freshmen who submit an SAT or ACT score with a complete application will be considered for all merit-based scholarships listed above.

Jesuit Preparatory Scholarships

Awarded to new freshmen who graduate from a Jesuit high school and have achieved a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

John P. McNulty Scholars Program for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Scholarship

Three full-tuition scholarships awarded to women who declare a major and plan to pursue a career in the fields of natural science, mathematics or computer science. Applicants are required to have a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale and a 1300/1600 SAT or 29 ACT. A separate application and an on-campus interview are required. Applicants are encouraged to apply for admission through the Early Action process. The Scholarship  application deadline is February 1. Legacy Awards

Awarded to freshmen with an immediate family member who graduated from Saint Joseph's University; i.e. grandparent, parent or sibling.

Our Mother of Sorrows Scholarship

A full-tuition, room and board scholarship offered in alternating years to one new freshman. It is open to those students who attended Our Mother of Sorrows School in West Philadelphia, PA. This scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2012. The school website can be found here.

Risk Management and Insurance Scholarship

Awarded to select freshmen who declare a major in Risk Management and Insurance. Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The scholarship review takes place in early April. Strong consideration is given to financial need as well as the applicants' academic records and SAT or ACT scores. United Scholars Grant

Partial-tuition grants awarded to new freshmen who are recognized as a member of an under-represented student population in the Saint Joseph's University community. This grant is provided to enhance the University's diversity initiatives. Students' academic achievements and SAT/ACT scores will be considered.

Villiger Speech and Debate Society Scholarship

The Villiger Speech and Debate Society offers scholarships to new freshmen who have excelled in high school speech and/or debate competitions and wish to continue their forensic careers in college. Typically, the value of the scholarships ranges from one-third to one-half tuition. A separate application is required. Finalists will be invited to campus for an interview and a chance to audition in the speaking event of their choice. More information is available here.
