Dear Fellow Hawks,
Greetings, fellow Hawk alumni! As one of my first duties in my new term as President, I am excited to share a few of the many new initiatives taking place within the Alumni Association. Before I begin, I would like to thank everyone who voted in the National Alumni Board election and congratulate the members of the new Executive Committee:
Executive Vice President – Gina Mazzulla ’91
Vice President – Jack Ginter ’93
Secretary – John Brennan ’69
As you may know, Gina and Jack served on the Executive Committee for the past two years, and John has been an extremely active member of the National Alumni Board. I look forward to working with this enthusiastic group as we continue with our exciting plans for the future of the Alumni Association. In addition, we currently have several open spots for membership on the National Alumni Board, as we continue to build an organization that has a national scope – representing all alumni. If you are interested in serving, please contact Director of Alumni Relations Frank DeVecchis at 610-660-3213 or frank.devecchis@sju.edu.
Each NAB committee continues to make outstanding progress. The “Hawk T” initiative has been an incredibly successful initiative, which began through the Revenue Committee, and has turned into a widespread alumni-student effort. Much thanks to Mike Hare ’83 for his continued support.
The soon-to-be-launched Alumni Online Community – an incentive led by Deb Coughlin ’75 and the Communications and Technology Committee – will soon be up and running. This “portal” is a safe and secure website enabling Saint Joseph’s alumni to communicate with each other, post photos and reconnect with other graduates.
The Programs Committee is staying busy with a brand-new program, the Spring Serveathon. Headed by Dan Gallagher ’94, the Serveathon will bring together alumni in Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C. to participate in local service activities – all on the same day. The focus of the event is to carry out SJU’s mission of being men and women with and for others which is so much a part of our students’ lives. Stay tuned for more details on opportunities in your area.
Another exciting announcement from the Programs Committee is the change of date for Reunion Weekend 2008, to September 26-28. Although historically Saint Joseph’s Reunion Weekend has been held in May, many important factors have contributed to our decision to move the event to the fall. In addition to the overwhelming response in our alumni survey, the change in date enables us to open the weekend to all alumni – not just those celebrating their reunions. The energy and enthusiasm from the students and faculty on campus will certainly add a wonderful element to the festivities. We hope it will become a “Hawks Come Home” weekend each year for the University.
Finally, I would like to offer a word of thanks to Pat Mahoney ’76 for her tremendous leadership as Alumni Association President. Those of you who know her on a personal level can appreciate that she is as dedicated as they come. Pat’s dynamic personality and overwhelming commitment to the University have paved the way for so many new programs and strategies. I look forward to continuing where she left off.
Your loyal Hawk,
Dennis P. Sheehan, Esq. ’85 (B.S.)
President
Saint Joseph’s University Alumni Association
