President's Welcome

lannonDear Friends,

Saint Joseph’s has witnessed tremendous accomplishments in all facets of university life ~ an alumni participation rate that increased from 18% to 22%, a top 10 ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Fulbright and Goldwater scholars, new residence halls for 400 students and athletic achievements that were at times breathtaking. In addition, two of Saint Joseph’s faculty members found themselves the center of international attention focused on research each had recently published. Our students also played a major role in the University’s scholarly success, as well. Our Phi Beta Kappa chapter inducted 50 new members and more than 100 Haub School under-graduate and graduate students were inducted into the University’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. And to think these are just a few of the highlights! The Spirit • Intellect • Purpose of Saint Joseph’s University is fully celebrated on Hawk Hill.

The entire Saint Joseph’s community is grateful for your support. Without you, these accomplishments would not have been possible. It is with pride that the University recognizes your support through membership in prestigious gift societies. Gifts of $1,000 or more are recognized with membership in the Barbelin Society. Current parents can become members of the Loyola Society with a gift of $1,000 or more. Making a planned gift or bequest to Saint Joseph’s ensures your membership in the esteemed Ignatian Circle. Members of the Barbelin Society, the Loyola Society and the Ignatian Circle play a vital role in shaping the future of Saint Joseph’s.

I am also pleased to share with you the creation of the Magis Society. This group of dedicated leaders among the Saint Joseph’s community supports the University’s highest priorities with a gift of $25,000 or more per year. They also actively participate in determining the role of philanthropy at Saint Joseph’s as it relates to achieving our goals for the future – namely, to be recognized as the preeminent Catholic comprehensive university in the Northeast. Members of the Magis Society are called to decide in favor of a course of action that is a more generous response to further the mission of Saint Joseph’s University and, thus, for the greater glory of God. I am extremely grateful for their leadership and generosity.

As many of you already know, it is my vision for Saint Joseph’s University to be recognized as the preeminent Catholic comprehensive university in the Northeast. This is an ambitious goal, but one I am certainly confident we can achieve with the continued and increased support of all of our alumni, parents and friends. Striving to attain preeminence will take Saint Joseph’s on a journey – a journey in which we will all be asked to do more than we have ever done before. We, as a community, embrace this goal because the special kind of education we offer at Saint Joseph’s is so vitally important to today’s world. I hope I can count on you to join me on this journey. May God continue to bless you and your family.

Best wishes,

Timothy R. Lannon, S.J.
