Courses Taught:

Research Interests:

The study of the developmental cycle of the bacterium, Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus. The bdellovibrios are obligate preditors of other Gram-negative bacteria, exhibiting a bi-phasic life cycle characterized by a free living attack phase and an intraperiplasmic growth phase.

Ongoing projects include:

    1. Isolation of mutants unable to grow predatiously by utilizing transposon insertion mutagenesis.
    2. Characterization of predation-deficient mutants.
    3.  Isolation and cloning of predation-specific genes.
    4.  DNA sequence analysis of predation-specific genes.
    5.  Sequencing and annotating the genome of Bdellovibrio sp. Strain W (in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center).
