The Biology Graduate Program is built on a solid training in scientific research methodology, experimental design, data analysis and communication. All M.S. students (and
many M.A. students) conduct an in-depth scientific study under the direction of one or more of the Graduate Biology faculty. For M.S. students, this project spans almost the entire two years of the program,
beginning with three, four-week lab rotations in the first semester. M.S. students then prepare a written thesis and give a public presentation of their work as part of the weekly Wednesday seminar series.
The Biology Department at SJU offers Masters students the best of both worlds in terms of research: a diverse group of faculty whose interests span all areas of the life sciences, and a
small school atmosphere where graduate students can develop very close working relationships with their mentors. The end result is an excellent opportunity to develop the skills and techniques that prepare
students for jobs in life science industries, for graduate or professional school, or for careers in science education.
