The Biology department also has a lab dedicated for tissue culture work.  This facility is used both for course work (in classes such as Developmental Biology and Advanced Cell Biology) and for student and faculty research projects.  Much of the equipment in the tissue culture facility was obtained as part of an Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement grant award to Dr. Tefft in 1990.  The lab was renovated in 1998 as part of the National Science Foundation grant to the Biology department.



Pictured here are John Dougherty (‘02) and Carlos Carre (‘02) who did research on the plant pathogenic fungus Ustilago maydis in the lab of Drs. Snetselaar and McCann.  They are shown using a laminar flow hood to sterilely transfer cells of the fungus in a screen for mutants.
