Anna Nguyen started work in the Ustilago lab in the spring of her junior year; she worked for two summers, both years supported by NSF funds.  Anna has concentrated on learning how U. maydis cells behave outside the plant.  Some of her work involved cells exposed to pheromone and thus stimulated to make mating filaments.  She has also examined the effects of pheromone, cAMP, and carbon source on the budding cycle in vegetative cells.  Anna has spent many hours as you see her here, analyzing data using the image analysis program ImageProPlus.  She presented her results in the summer of 2000 at the annual meeting of the Microscopy Society of America, held in Philadelphia.  Anna graduated in 2001,  started a Physician's Assistant program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall of 2001.
