Jennifer (Mattaliano) Fischer completed
her M.S. degree in the summer of 2000. The title of her thesis is "Characterization
of amino acid auxotrophs of the plant pathogenic fungus Ustilago maydis:Evidence
for a methionine-dependent methylation during mating." Jen presented some
of her work at the 1999 meeting of the American Cell Biology Society in
Washington, and she gave a talk about the rest of it at the 2000 meeting
of the Mycological Society of America in Burlington VT. You can see some
of her slides here. Much of
Jen's work was published in Fungal
Genetics in Biology in October, 2001. While at SJU, Jen was funded
by the Graduate school, by the NSF, and by a travel grant from the Mycological
Society of America. She is now in a Ph.D. program at the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
