Past Students
(All SJU graduates, unless otherwise noted). HHMI means students did summer research funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; NSF indicates that students were funded by National Science Foundation Grant MCB9807807 to K. Snetselaar and M. McCann, and GK12 indicates students funded by the NSF GK-12 program at SJU.  (This list is not yet complete--apologies to those students who are not yet listed and/or pictured.  Feel free to send a photo and/or update!)

    Renata Ormand '94 studied the ultrastructure of meiosis in U. maydis spores.  She is presently employed as an Electron Microscopy technician at the University of Pennsylvania (?).

    Megan Hindman was a research student for one summer (1995), working on methods to measure DNA content in Ustilago nuclei.  She went on to a Biotechnology program at Jefferson.

    Janet Gervais HHMI was a research student during the summer of 1996, and began the ts mutant collection.  She attended NCUR in 1997, and graduated from Cabrini College the next year.
    John Devlin was an Honors research student during 1996-97.  He presented his work at NCUR and at the local Sigma Xi Symposium in 1997.  He is presently in medical school at Allegheny.

    Sally Friar was a research student in the lab during the 1996-1997 academic year.  She went on to chiropractic school in New York.
    Charles Roche '99 HHMI was a research student during the summer and fall of 1997.  Hewent on to medical school at Thomas Jefferson.
    Matthew Warner '99 HHMI was a research student during the summer and fall of 1997.  He attended Medical school in New Jersey.
    Kelly Cleary '98 was a research student during the 1997-98 academic year.  She presented her results at NCUR in 1998.  Since graduation Kelly has worked for a pharmaceutical company and taught high school science, and we think she's in med school now but need an update desperately!

    Dawn Riddle '99 did one semester of research dealing with Ustilago mutants that cannot utilize certain carbon sources, in the spring of 1999.  She's working as a research associate in a medical lab.

    Danielle Kusmaul '00 NSF began doing research in the fall of 1998.  She went to medical school but we haven't heard from her for awhile.

    Jennifer (Mattaliano) Fischer NSF finished her M.S. in '00.
    Rich Pagano, graduated in '02, worked with Joe Curry on sequencing a ts mutant.
    Kirby Steger '01 spent a semester in the Ustilago lab, working on complementing a mating mutant.  He began a doctoral program in pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University in the fall.
