Welcome to the Zimbra Project blog, which will be used to communicate information regarding the Zimbra Project to all campus constituents. All progress and status information will be posted here regularly, so be sure to check back often to keep up with our progress.

We also would like to hear from you. This project will affect all SJU faculty and staff, so we want to know what your thoughts are during the entire process. Please share your comments, questions, and suggestions. Just select the Comments link below.

New updates will be posted frequently to this site. They will be displayed below in chronological order. Scroll to the bottom to see the newest posts.

All posts will also be categorized so particular topics will be easy to find. Simply select the topic(s) of interest from the list of categories on the right and only posts within that(those) topic(s) will be displayed.

Can you email from off campus using Outlook or Mac Mail?

Yes, you will no longer need to change your outgoing mail server to Comcast, Verizon, etc when you are off campus.  Zimbra will alllow you to send mail from off campus using Outlook and Mac Mail.

Can you drag and drop attachments into the Zimbra web client?

This is not available in this version, but will be available in the next upgrade.

Does Zimbra have an IM feature?

Yes, it currently has an IM feature in beta.  We will evaluate it for future use.

Does Zimbra sync with iCal?

Yes, it fully supports iCal.

Is an archiving feature available?

In order to archive old mail, you would use Outlook with the Zimbra connector or Mac Mail.

At what time will Squirrelmail be phased out?

Squirrelmail will still exist for students.  You will still be able to login to Squirrelmail, but you will not see any of your mail so it will essentially be useless to you.   This may take place around January 2010 but we do not have a set date yet.

Will group calendars also go away?

This is an issue that we are still addressing, but they may stay in MySJU.

Can Outlook/Mac Mail and the Zimbra web client both be used to check mail?

Yes, you would use Outlook with the Zimbra connector on your PC/Mac Mail on your Mac and when you are away from your desktop you can login to Zimbra from the web.
