The Saint Joseph's University community is invited to a complimentary luncheon to kick off our 2009 United Way Campaign. Join Co-chairs Cary Anderson, Althier Lazar and a representative from Project H.O.M.E., Erin O'Brien '99, to learn more about how our contributions make a significant difference in the lives of those in need in the community. An electric guitar autographed by Jon Bon Jovi will be on display and raffle tickets will be available to purchase for a chance to win the autographed guitar. All proceeds from the sale of the tickets will benefit Project H.O.M.E.

Join us for this powerful film starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the groundbreaking gay activist and California's first openly gay elected official. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Ann Green and Tom Brennan from the English Department. Presented as part of Unity Week.

Representatives from PricewaterhouseCoopers, a company with an outstanding record for creating an inclusive corporate culture, visit campus to discuss being out as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or ally professional. Presented as part of Unity Week.

The Fall Asian Studies lecture will be given by Dr. Han S. Park, University Professor of Public and International Affairs and Director of the Center for the Study of Global Issues (Globis) at the University of Georgia. Dr. Park will lecture on "The North Korean Nuclear Conundrum." That same day, in the Greaton Room in Barbelin, Dr. Park will offer a more informal presentation of "The Art of Mediation." Dr. Park was involved recently in the negotiations that led to the release of the journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling, and he will talk about his experiences. Both presentations are open to the public.

Lynda (Gass) '96 and Anthony Commale '95 along with their children, Katherine and Joseph, will talk about their work to provide anti-malaria sleeping nets for children in Africa. The Commale family have raised more than $100,000, and have also worked to raise global awareness about malaria in Africa.

Transsexual trailblazer Kate Bornstein will be reading from her memoir, "A Queer and Pleasant Danger," and discussing writing, gender boundary crossing, and the building of coalitions from those who live on the cultural margins.
