Cap and Bells Dramatic Arts Society was founded in 1928 by Tim Coughlin S.J. In 1949, Dr. Francis Olley, Professor at Saint Joseph's University, became Artistic Director of the organization, a position in which he served for over fifty years. In its eighty year history, the organization has produced over 150 productions ranging from Shakespeare to Moliere and modern drama to contemporary musical theatre.
Over the years, the work has included complex and diverse titles such as Macbeth, Taming Of The Shrew, As You Like It, Hamlet, You Can't Take It With You, Sweeney Todd, Sunday In The Park With George, The Laramie Project, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cabaret and Jesus Christ Superstar.
The organization also supports students through an extensive scholarship program (founded by Dr. Francis Olley) awarded annually and contingent upon an audition process and service to the organization. Alumni of the society have appeared on Broadway, in professional regional theatres and in university theaters and in university theatre graduate programs throughout the country. It is with great pride in the rich history of the organization that we present the 80th season! |
