WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR INTERVIEW
Deciding what to wear to your job, internship or graduate school interviews can be tough. When you are uncertain about what to wear, a good general guideline is to err on the conservative side: dress professionally, avoiding attire that is revealing or flashy. Following these tips will help you present your most confident self to the interviewer:
GENERAL TIPS FOR BUSINESS ATTIRE
- For suits, conservative colors such as dark gray, brown, navy blue, and black look the most professional
- Socks should match your shoes or pants and should go to mid-calf so that no skin shows when you are seated
- Shoes and belts should match in color
- Leather portfolio, with pockets to hold your resumes and a notepad for taking notes, will keep your resumes crisp and add to your professional look
- Make sure clothes are pressed or ironed, not wrinkled
- Use only a moderate amount of perfume or cologne
WOMEN
- Skirts should be around the knee
- Closed toe shoes with a heel that you can walk in comfortably
- Pantyhose in a neutral color
- Clothes should be conservative and not revealing
- Keep jewelry and makeup on the conservative side
MEN
- Long-sleeved button down shirt in a conservative color such as white or light blue
- If your tie has a pattern, it should be conservative (i.e. no pictures)
- Keep jewelry to a minimum
