This figure shows the X-ray crystal structure of the Diels-Alder adduct of 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran with pentacyclo[4.3.0.02,4.03,8. 05,7]non-4(5)-ene. This compound was prepared by Jason R. Stairs working with Dr. Mark A. Forman.
Welcome to the Department
of Chemistry at
Saint Joseph's University.
We are located on
the third and fourth floors of the Science Center. You can locate
the Science Center on the campus map by clicking here.
Our chemistry curriculum is sufficiently flexible to allow students with career interests in the various subdisciplines of chemistry, the health professions, business, and education to design academic programs that will prepare them for achieving their goals. The expertise of our faculty spans all of the major subdisciplines of chemistry (analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic, and physical) as well as environmental chemistry and geochemistry. The required courses for a B.S. in Chemistry provide our majors with a sound background in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subdisciplines. All of our laboratory courses are taught by the faculty and feature modern sophisticated instrumentation Our B.S. in Chemistry degree program is accredited by the American Chemical Society.
We encourage our students to become involved in faculty-directed independent research projects during both the academic year and the summer. Gifts from our alumni and local industry and research grants to our faculty members from federal agencies and private foundations provide the financial support for this work. Our students regularly publish their results in scientific journals and make presentations at regional and national meetings.
