Dr. Buckley regularly teaches First-Year German, German Conversation and Composition, and upper-division courses on German literature and culture from the mid-eighteenth to the early twentieth century (From the Enlightenment to Realism, From Bismarck to Hitler: 1871-1945, Modernity in the Early Twentieth Century). In addition, he has taught Advanced German Conversation and Composition as well as a course on the fantastic in German literature.
His teaching and research interests include:
- German Poetic Realism (mid-nineteenth century)
- Fin-de-Siècle Germany
- Relations between Literature and Science
- Modernity (early twentieth century)
- Swiss-German authors, especially Gottfried Keller
- Language Pedagogy
