Foreign Languages Placement Exam: Italian

This questionnaire and placement test are designed to help us more accurately and efficiently place freshmen and transfer students in our Italian courses and are for students of ITALIAN only. Students of French, German, and Spanish should return to the main placement exam page and select the appropriate link. All students of other languages will be tested the first week of the semester.

Please read the following directions carefully. All students must fill out the questionnaire, whether or not they have previously studied Italian in school. If students have already taken Italian courses in school, they must also take the placement test (linked to the questionnaire). If students have never formally studied Italian, they should not take the placement test at this time, but they must still respond to the questionnaire.

We urge students to respond to the questionnaire and, if necessary, to take the test, as soon as possible so that the results can be made part of the placement process that takes place during the first two weeks of June. Please make every effort to take the test by May 25.

To fill out the questionnaire:
After clicking on the link below, enter the UserID and password provided in your letter when prompted. When logging on, be sure to use all lower case letters. Read the instructions and then select the "Questionnaire" button on the left side of the page. Respond to the questions as completely as possible.

To take the placement test:
Students who have already studied Italian in school can access the placement test via the link at the end of the questionnaire.

We ask that students take this test seriously and honestly.Try to offer an accurate picture of your abilities. Discrepancies between test score and secondary school record will require re-testing at the beginning of the fall semester. Your roster will then be re-worked at a time when only less desirable class times, early in the morning or late in the day, are available. Please give an accurate picture of your linguistic history in the questionnaire preceding the exam.
