New Course Description: PSY 2041 Multicultural Psychology
We live in a multicultural society, and as such, it is important for us to understand cultures other than our own. Multicultural psychology is the systematic study of how different cultures (broadly defined) affect the way people think, feel, and act. People often associate culture with race and ethnicity. But culture extends beyond race and ethnicity. In this course, we will be examining current theories and research on culture, including gender, race and ethnicity, and lesbian/gay/bisexuality. Additional topics include: differences in communication, immigrant experiences and acculturation, stereotyping/prejudice/discrimination/racism, cultural identity development, health disparities in minority groups, culture and mental health, and multicultural competence.

Requirements for a Minor in Gender Studies:
Students seeking a minor in Gender Studies are required to select and complete six courses from the program’s listings, with no more than two in any one academic discipline. GEN 2901: Seminar in Feminist Theories must be one of these six courses. Students are encouraged but not required to take GEN 2971: Selected Topics in Gender Studies (an independent study done under the supervision of a member of the Gender Studies Committee) as one of these six courses. For more information, please see our web-site: http//www.sju.edu/cas/gender-studies/ or contact Dr. Ann Green, Director of Gender Studies, for more information (ext.1889; email: agreen@sju.edu).
