Four Courses Study Abroad Policy
CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE:
Universities/Programs Affected :
- Birkbeck College , University of London
- Lancaster University (students attending for fall term must also enroll for the pre-session)
- University of Melbourne
- University of Queensland
- Macquarie University
- Duke-ICCS Rome program
- SIT in Chile
- Augsburg College in Namibia
It is understood that students who attend one of the universities listed above are only permitted to take four, 4-credit courses per semester at that institution. Due to the fact that this may impact a student's graduation course requirements, SJU will make one of the following accommodations:
1. WAIVE AN ELECTIVE
Student will be waived one free elective, thereby graduating with one course less than the number required for their major provided that:
- the student must have one free elective remaining over and above the ones taken with the study abroad program
- the student will still have at least 120 credits at time of graduation.
--OR--
2. TUITION ADJUSTMENT
If the student does not have at least 120 credits at graduation or a free elective remaining, then Saint Joseph 's University
- will provide a tuition adjustment to the semester wherein they are charged a tuition overload or pay for one summer or intersession course taken at Saint Joseph 's University
- additional course must be taken at Saint Joseph 's University. No adjustments can be made if the needed course is taken at another institution
- additional course must be taken in a term following the study abroad experience
In order for one of the above accommodations to be made for a student he/she MUST remained enrolled as a full-time student according to the study abroad program's requirements. The student is obliged to successfully complete all coursework on the study abroad program. The student is also responsible for maintaining copies of this paperwork to provide proper certification to the appropriate Dean's office should such paperwork be necessary to ensure graduation requirements are met.
