Fall Course: The Dominican Republic - Just Health Care in Developing Nations

Travel dates: January 7-15, 2009; program fee:

The course will examine the issue of just health care for all peoples from both public health and ethical perspectives and students' immersion in the Dominican Republic will involve a service component. This course has an earlier application deadline and an additional interview process – see the Faith Justice Institute for details.

Bolivia - Education and the Jesuit Mission in Latin America

Travel dates: March 9 - 15; program fee:

Students will experience the reality of schools in the country of Bolivia where poverty, ethnic marginalization and political disenfranchisement define the lives of most communities. The course focuses on the Jesuit ethic in Latin America and Bolivia and highlights the tradition of the theology of liberation which understands the school as a forum for advocacy, social empowerment, and personal spirituality. The Netherlands: The Culture of Addiction

Travel dates: May 18 - 27, 2009; program fee:

SOC / IHS 2151 – Drs. George W. Dowdall and Robert Chapman

During this course, students will explore the origins of their personal perceptions about alcohol and other drugs as substances and about the consumption of psychoactive substances as personal behavior.  Cultural values that have influenced the language used to describe and discuss use and abuse, recognize and identify problems, and ultimately intervene and treat problems will be explored.   In particular, the history of treatment in the US will be juxtaposed with that of contemporary treatment  strategies and perspectives of mental health and addictions professionals in the Netherlands.

 

Northern Spain and Southern France: Food Business, Food Culture and Ignatian Heritage

Violence and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland

Europe – Finance and Accounting

Travel dates: May 22 -June 7; program fee: approx.

FIN/ACC 2911 & FIN/ACC 5085 -Dr. McManus & Prof. Ragan
This course intends to assess the accounting and financial impact of the EMU in its first six years and to debate its future challenges. Visits are tentatively planned to Cologne, Germany; Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; and Prague, Czech Republic. The course is open to undergraduate & graduate students.

EMBA Study Tour,  China: Global Business

Travel dates: March 9 - 15, 2009

MBE 8280– Drs. Alfredo Mauri and WaQar Ghani

Students in the EMBA program will focus on the interrelated issues of the environment of international business, international business strategy, and organizational structure, behavior and coordination. The impact of culture, competition and marketforces will be explored. This study tour is offered only to students in the EMBA program.
