Hyland, 35, spent the previous two seasons assisting Hugh Walsh and Rick Savarese guide the Ice Hawks to two consecutive MACHA playoff births. Prior to his tenure with the SJU Ice Hockey program, he spent seasons coaching with the Monsignor Bonner High School Ice Hockey program and the South Jersey Jr. Raptors. Hyland, a Michigan native, played his Jr hockey in the Michigan Nationals program which participated in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He played college hockey at North Country College in Saranac Lake where he won a NCAA National Championship under coach Tim Gerrish before transferring to Elmira College in the ECAC West to finish out his career. He is also a USA Hockey Level 3 certified coach.
