Other Information:
The Danville Area Education Network (DAENet) was created in 1994 in response to a State HECA (Higher Education Cooperation Act) grant designed to link the higher education facilities in Illinois via interactive digitally compressed video (T-1). Danville Area Community College has received approximately $553,000 over a two year period to purchase and install distance learning equipment. We have linked five area High Schools and The United Samaritans Medical Center to the College.

We used VTEL technology, employing 3 BK235 rollabout packages with significant room integration (thats all the extra stuff that makes the classroom nice and functional), 2 BK227 rollabouts, and 2 BK127 rollabouts. All of our local classrooms are switched via a VTEL MCU II 13 port bridge running at full T-1 (1.5 megabits). We also maintain a connection to a DS-3 (Fiber-optic based 45 megabit) switch in Mattoon, Illinois, which connects us with the "Rest of the World".
