Computer Account Information

As a student at Saint Joseph's University, you have been assigned a computer account that gives you access to a number of technology services. To access these services, you need to know your account name (sometimes referred to as your username) and password. After you were accepted as an SJU student, your computer account was created and your account name and password were mailed to your home address. Click Here if you are a NEW student and did not receive or have misplaced your computer account information. Click Here if you are NOT a new student and and did not receive or have misplaced your computer account information; you will have to reset your computer account password.

About

Typically, your account name is a unique, eight-character identifier comprised of the initials of your first and last name along with the last six digits of your SJU ID number. For example, if your name is John Smith and your ID number is 12345678, your account name would be js345678. Your password is randomly assigned and is six to eight characters in length.

Use your account name and password to access to the following services:

  • University Computers - Use the network to access your J: drive (personal disk storage on the network) and the Internet.
  • MySJU - Use the University's information portal to access your email, view your personal calendar, access your class schedule, pay your bill, view grades and much, much more.
  • Electronic Mail - Use MySJU or Squirrel Mail to access your University mail account.
  • Blackboard - Access your course home pages using this Web-based courseware.
  • Library Databases and Resources - Access a rich array of databases and resources.

Obtaining Your Computer Account Information

Every NEW student at Saint Joseph's University should have received computer account information in the mail that gives you access to a number of technology services.

If you are a NEW student and did not receive or have misplaced your computer account information you can request a new printout of the information in three ways:

  1. Visit Us - Bring a valid SJU student ID card to the Student Help Desk in Science Center, Room 129 and request a printout of your account information
  2. Phone - Call the Student Help Desk (610-660-3070) with your SJU student ID card in hand and request a printout of your computer account information to be mailed to your home address. Note: Account information will only be mailed to the address that is already registered within our computer system.
  3. E-mail - E-mail the Student Help Desk (hawknet@sju.edu) requesting a printout of your computer account information. Be sure to include your first name, last name, phone number, and eight-digit student ID number. Your eight-digit student ID can be found on most University correspondence number and your SJU student ID card. See the diagram below for help on finding your eight-digit student ID number on your ID card. Note: Account information will only be mailed to the postal address that is already registered within our computer system; not e-mailed.

Computer Accounts for Alumni who are Auditing Courses

If you are an alumni of Saint Joseph's University and are currently auditing a course, you muct contact the Office of Alumni Relations to obtain your computer account information. The Office of Alumni Relations can be reached by calling 610-660-3205.

Resetting/Changing Your Computer Account Password

When your computer account was established, a system-generated password was assigned to you. The generated password is six to eight characters in length and it is rather cryptic so that your account cannot be easily compromised.

You are encouraged to change your password to something more memorable. When changing your password, you must select a password that is 6-20 characters in length with at least one digit in the sequence. Your password should not be shared with anyone.

Follow these steps if you forget your password or if you simply want to change your password:

1. On the MySJU home page (http://my.sju.edu), click on the link in the Welcome section of the MySJU home page entitled "To reset your password, click here".

2. Enter your SJU ID number and Birth Date and then click on the Verify User button.

3. Next, enter your new password and answer the security question. The security question is preset and you are prompted to enter your social security number. It is recommended that you keep your MySJU and e-mail/network passwords synchronized. To keep them synchronized, click on the checkbox to set the same password for each service.

4. Click on the SUBMIT button to process your password change request. It will take 2-3 minutes to process your request.

Note: The change to your MySJU Password is immediate, BUT the change to your Network/Email Password will be effective in 24 hours.

Changing Your Network/E-mail Password Only (Not MySJU Password)

Life of your Computer Account

Computer accounts are active while you are an active student and remain active one year after your graduation date. If you are a recent graduate (within 1 year) and are experiencing problems accessing MySJU or other university computer services, first try to reset your computer account password. Click Here for instructions on resetting your computer account password. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact the Student Help Desk. Click Here for contact information.
