Student Employment Opportunities

Information Technology is currently accepting applications from students who are interested in working for Information Technology.  All interested applicants should send an e-mail and a resume to labjobs@sju.edu.

General requirements for all student assistants:

  • Customer service attitude
  • Willing and able to learn new technical concepts and tasks
  • Interact well with other people; need to be able to interact and work cooperatively with other student assistants and staff members
  • Familiarity with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Mac OS 8.x and above, MS Office and the Internet
  • Individual initiative and responsibility is necessary
  • A commitment to work one full year is requested

Positions:

Student Helpdesk

Answer calls in a thorough, efficient manner, providing excellent customer service; Resolve user requests where possible; refer calls to other areas of Information Technology as needed; Keep informed about IT Division, supported hardware and software, and policies and procedures; Attend and actively participate in required training and meetings; Provide information about training and support for lab applications; Direct users in use of software packages and maintain an orderly appearance in the lab; Check and refill paper trays in the lab printers; Enter student service calls into Remedey's Action Request System, the Helpdesk problem tracking system; Attend and actively participate in required training and meetings; Requires a higher level of knowledge than lab workers.

There are several important things to remember when applying for the Student Helpdesk

  • You must be able to work between 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM Monday through Friday. Weekend lab work is also available.
  • This positions requires a higher level of knowledge than Computer Lab Attendants.
  • Graduate assistants are expected to make a commitment of at least two semesters (does not include summer sessions).

Computer Lab Attendant

Responsibilities include directing and assisting users with accessing software applications; provide account information; Enter service calls into Remedy's Action Request System for software and hardware problems; assist users with lab procedures; Direct and assist users with accessing systems and provide information about other available resources; Maintain lab cleanliness and ensure users are complying with lab usage guidelines.

Student Technology Associate

Provides technical assistance to SJU faculty, students and staff primarily via house calls. Requires: demonstrated superior customer service attitude!; Minimum of one year experience with either PC or Macintosh; Demonstrates problem-solving skills; Ability to interact with staff, administrators, and faculty at all levels of computing sophistication.
