Accessing your J: Drive (Home Folder) on the SJU Network
- What is your "J: Drive"?
- Each student has what is called a "J: Drive". This is space allotted to you on the SJU network for you to store important files and documents. Anytime you login to a university computer, your personal J: Drive will automatically be mapped for you to access. You can view your J: Drive by double clicking on the My Computer icon. Each student has a limit or quota of 73 megabytes.
- You can view your quota at anytime by visiting the following website: https://www.sju.edu/cgi-local/viewquota. You will need to login using your network username and password.
- How do I access my J: Drive from my personal computer?
- Choose your operating system from the choices below for instructions on connecting to your J: Drive.
- Right click on My Computer and click Map Network Drive...
- Select J: for Drive and type in \\sju_fs1\homes for Folder. Click Finish.
- If you are prompted for a User name and Password, please enter your NETWORK account information. If you did not receive or have misplaced your computer account information, Click Here or contact the Student Help Desk at 610-660-3070 (x3070) for instructions on obtaining your computer account information.
Please follow the instructions for connecting a Microsoft Windows 2000 computer to the network.

If you are having difficulties connecting to the J: drive in this way, please follow directions for connecting to the J: drive from home (instructions are located below).
- From the Apple menu, select Network Browser.
- Double click "AppleTalk"
- Double click "SJU EtherTalk2 Network"
- Double click SJU Macintosh Home Folders.
- Choose Registered User and enter your NETWORK Name and Password.
- Double click OurHome (username@mailhost).
- Your home folder should now be mounted on your desktop.
- Option 1 - Click Here if your Macintosh is connected to the SJU Network.
Note: Being connected to the SJU Network requires more than just being plugged into a network jack on campus. It also requires certain settings to be configured. These instructions were written for use on Laptop Program iBooks running Mac OS X, but they are compatible with any Macintosh running Mac OS X.
- Option 2 - Follow the instructions below if your Macintosh IS NOT connected to the SJU Network.
- From the Finder, choose the Go menu and select Connect to Server...

- In the Address field please type in "smb://sju_fs1/homes" and click Connect.

- A box will appear and you will need to enter SJU for the "Workgroup/Domain" field and your NETWORK Username and Password.

- Once you are connected to your Home folder an Icon will appear on your desktop like the one below:
- Launch your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape)
- In the Address field type in the following and hit Enter:
- ftp://username@polaris.sju.edu/
- For Example: ftp://ec021241@polaris.sju.edu/
- A window labeled "Log On As" for Internet Explorer or "Password" for Netscape will appear. Enter your Password (same as your network account information) as demonstrated below and click Log On button.
Internet Explorer view

Netscape view
- A new window will appear containing all the contents of your J: drive. If you used Internet Explorer the window will behave as if you accessed your J: drive from a campus computer. You will be able to copy, cut, paste, delete, and create files. If you used Netscape you will only be able to download files from your J: drive.
