In June 2010, Saint Joseph’s University launched the Alliance for Catholic Education at Saint Joseph’s University (ACESJU), an innovative, two-year service through teaching program that provides recent college graduates the opportunity to serve as full-time teachers in under-resourced Catholic schools while pursuing a master’s degree in education. To prepare these highly motivated new teachers, ACESJU provides an intensive service experience encompassing four programmatic pillars: teaching, community, spirituality, and simple living.
Modeled after the University of Notre Dame’s successful Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program and supported by the University of Pennsylvania, ACESJU was developed to revitalize and preserve quality, Catholic education in the Philadelphia region by providing a steady infusion of highly-trained teachers. In June 2012, the program proudly welcomed its second cohort of 15 teaching fellows who represent a diversely talented group of recent undergraduates. The ACESJU fellows teach at partnering Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Diocese of Camden (New Jersey).
Aligned with Saint Joseph’s mission to teach students to act and think as men and women with and for others, the ACESJU program is housed within the Department of Teacher Education whose faculty and staff are dedicated to the ongoing development and support of urban schoolteachers.

The Alliance for Catholic Education at Saint Joseph’s University (ACESJU) is a member of the University Consortium for Catholic Education (UCCE). This consortium establishes and supports a collaborative cadre of primarily Catholic colleges and universities as they design and implement graduate teaching service programs, for the purpose of supporting Catholic/Parochial education in the United States. If ACESJU does not meet your specific needs or interests, please consider applying for one of the other UCCE member programs. Please visit the UCCE website at www.ucceconnect.com.
