Natural Sciences (2 courses required)

For Students in the Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013

Two courses are required.  Some major concentrations specify particular natural science GER courses that their students should take to satisfy the natural science requirement.  The student should take the courses required for their major.

The following are courses designed for non-science majors. Some of these are offered every semester, some in a fall and spring sequence. Successful completion of two semesters of any of the following courses will fulfill the natural science GE requirement for non-science majors:

Biology:

BIO 160 Heredity and Evolution (formerly BIO 1311)
BIO 161 The Human Organism (formerly BIO 1321)
BIO 162 Plants and Civilization (formerly BIO 1331)
BIO 163 Unseen Life on Earth (formerly BIO 1501)
**BIO 164 Introduction to Pharmacology (formerly BIO 1341 - Only satisfies GER natural science requirement for Pharmaceutical Marketing majors)

Chemistry:

CHM 100 Chemistry for the Consumer (formerly CHM 1031)
**CHM 110/111 Food Chemistry I & II (formerly CHM 1081/1091 - Only satisfies GER natural science requirement for Food Marketing majors)

Environmental Science:

ENV 103 Introduction to Planet Earth (formerly ENV 1031)
ENV 105 The Environment (formerly ENV 1301)

Physics:

PHY 110 Physics Concept and Application (formerly PHY 1311)
PHY 111 The Astronomical Universe (formerly PHY 1321)
PHY 112 Energy: Problems and Promise (formerly PHY 1331)
PHY 113 Physics by Experiment (formerly PHY 1341)

Students can also fulfill the GER natural science requirement by taking two semesters of any of the lab-based, introductory courses designed for science majors. These include:

Biology:

BIO 101/101L Biology I: Cells (formerly BIO 1011)
BIO 102/102L Biology II: Genetics and Evolutionary Biology (formerly BIO 1021)
