Bioscience Technologies

For students who are interested in careers in laboratory sciences, Jefferson offers several possible academic programs that lead to either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Some career tracks include:

  • Biotechnology
  • Cytotechnology
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Specialty tracks in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology (Blood Banking),
  • Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Biology
For detailed descriptions of each of these programs along with a list of prerequisite courses, visit the Jefferson website.

Note that the length of time spent at Jefferson for these programs varies according to the degree sought. In a 3+1 program, students would earn a bachelor’s degree from SJU and a bachelor’s degree from Jefferson in 4 years. In a 3+2 program, students would earn a bachelor’s degree from SJU and a master’s degree from Jefferson in 5 years. It is also possible to complete a 4 year degree at SJU and then earn a Master’s degree in one of the Laboratory Science areas in one additional calendar year.
High school students who are considering the joint program in Bioscience Technologies must apply to both schools using separate applications for admission – a PACE application to Thomas Jefferson and the regular freshman application to Saint Joseph’s. Current SJU students who wish to pursue the 3+1 or 3+2 options can apply for a seat in the program at the end of freshman year. Please consult with Mrs. O’Hara for more information about applying to these programs.
