ENG 261 Introduction to Reporting and Writing (3 credits)
An introduction to the basics of journalism, this course will teach students how to find and develop story ideas, how to cultivate and interview sources, and how to put together stories for print and online media. Students will gain hands-on experience in field reporting and writing as they work closely with editors of The Hawk student newspaper on print and digital story ideas that may be chosen for publication. In its examination of the journalism industry, this course also seeks to help students become more sophisticated consumers of media and to better understand the social responsibilities of the journalist. Does not fulfill GEP Art/Lit requirement.
