PHY 255 Linear Systems in Physics (3 credits)
An introduction to advanced mathematical topics in the context of elementary systems in physics. Techniques and methods are emphasized. Formal proofs are discussed when they help elucidate the techniques and methods under study. Topics include: applications of series and sequences, power series, complex numbers and identities, first- and second-order differential equations, waves and Fourier analysis, Fourier and Laplace transforms, fundamentals of linear algebra and the eigenvalue problem, and vector calculus.
