PMK 180 Patient Access to Healthcare (3 credits)

An entry-level course that will provide an understanding of healthcare delivery in the U.S. and familiarity with the components of healthcare delivery to include: patients, providers, products, payers and policy makers/regulators. Students will learn how to analyze healthcare services from time of diagnosis to full medical release as well as the requirements for coverage determinations by state and federal government programs, insurance policies and company-sponsored programs. As a service learning course, students will also have the opportunity to assist patients with various interactions with healthcare delivery ranging from interpreting their healthcare coverage options to post-operative recovery and disease management.
