PSY 661 Advanced Multicultural Psychology (3 credits)
The primary aim of this course is to provide students with a knowledge base essential for research with diverse populations. For the purposes of this course a broad definition of diversity will be utilized to include race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, spirituality, gender, ability and aging. The specific objectives of the course include: (a) to promote a broader understanding of diversity and its relevance to research, (b) to enhance sensitivity to socio-cultural variables as they exist in the U.S. and to identify how these variables play out in our research, (c) to develop skills to conduct culturally relevant research, and (d) to encourage dialogue and introspection about the role of culture in all aspects of our lives.
