SPA 426 Culture in Revolution (3 credits)

In this course students will become familiar with three main milestones of Latin American history and culture in the 20th century: the Mexican, Cuban and Nicaraguan Revolutions. Beginning with a discussion of the concept of "revolution" and a brief historical introduction to these periods, we will focus specifically on the cultural policies of the new regimes, with particular emphasis on the literacy campaigns derived from those policies. Students will also become familiar with the different cultural manifestations of those periods, including literature, visual arts, and popular music.

Prerequisites: SPA 302 or 303; and either SPA 310 or 350.. This course fulfills the Art/Lit requirement.
