The Arrupe Center Fellows Program has been implemented to enhance faculty involvement in the mission of the Arrupe Center. Faculty may demonstrate their commitment to ethics-based research and teaching by applying for one or more of five Arrupe Center Fellowships. RECOMMENDED CONFERENCES AND CURRENT CALLS FOR PAPERS
Additionally, faculty may participate in the summer Ethics Across the Curriculum seminar.
I. Arrupe Center Research Fellows – HSB faculty work with the Arrupe Center to produce ethics-based disciplinary scholarship. Support will typically be provided through the following process:
- HSB faculty submit research proposals to the Arrupe Center.
- Arrupe Center faculty work with HSB faculty to infuse ethical theory, methods, and decision-making perspectives.
- HSB faculty submit and publish research in a suitable academic outlet.
II. Arrupe Center Teaching Fellows – HSB faculty work with Arrupe Center to produce ethics-based pedagogical enhancements to courses and curricula. Support will typically be provided through the following process:
- HSB faculty submit ethics-based teaching proposals to the Arrupe Center.
- Arrupe Center faculty work with HSB faculty to infuse ethical theory, methods, and decision-making perspectives in courses and curricula:
- Curricular Integration – Departments can create customized ethical learning opportunities in courses (vertically and horizontally). A department member will act as champion to integrate ethics vertically throughout the department’s curriculum.
- Course Development Integration – Faculty can redesign existing courses or create new courses to establish ethics as a prominent foundation or integral dimension.
III. Arrupe Center Case Writing Fellows - HSB faculty work with Arrupe Center to produce ethics-based cases. Support will typically be provided through the following process:
- HSB faculty submit ethics-based case writing proposals to the Arrupe Center.
- Arrupe Center faculty work with HSB faculty to infuse ethical theory, methods, and decision-making perspectives into the case.
- To complete the case writing fellowship, the case must be submitted for publication to an academic outlet that publishes cases.
- HSB faculty integrate ethics in two types of cases:
- Disciplinary Ethics Cases – Faculty (individually or jointly) will work with the Arrupe Center to develop discipline specific cases.
- Interdisciplinary Ethics Cases – Faculty collaborations from different disciplines work with the Arrupe Center to create interdisciplinary cases Interdisciplinary cases from multiple faculty across departments are encouraged.
IV. “Ethics Across the Curriculum” - This University-wide program provides in-depth ethical education in a small seminar format facilitated by Arrupe Center Director, Dr. John McCall. EAC takes place during Summer I. It is possible for Arrupe Center EAC Fellows to continue work from this seminar to become Arrupe Center Research Fellows or Arrupe Center Teaching Fellows. Participation in EAC constitutes a Professional Development-EAC fellowship.
V. Arrupe Center Professional Development Fellows – HSB faculty can receive professional development travel funding for conferences, meetings, and other gatherings, highlighting an ethics-based approach to their disciplines. It is possible for Arrupe Center Professional Development Fellows to continue work from this program to become Arrupe Center Research Fellows or Arrupe Center Teaching Fellows.
- HSB faculty submit faculty development proposals related to expanding their knowledge of ethics in their academic disciplines and applying it to teaching and/or research.
- HSB faculty attend professional development events.
- HSB faculty submit a report to and debrief with the Arrupe Center about leanings and applications from events.
