Thomas Kesaris, Director
Based on his own personal experiences of adapting to a new culture, learning a different language as well as witnessing the many positive benefits on others who have participated in international education, he has made international education his career long passion. He has been in the field of international education for thirty-two years in various positions including Director, Program Director, Study Abroad Advisor and Business Manager. Prior to his current position of Director of the Center for International Programs, he was the Program Director for Study Abroad at Temple University. In his current position, he is responsible for overseeing all SJU-related semester abroad programs, international student services and study tours/summer programs.
Meryl Halpern, Assistant Director for International Students
Meryl has been the Assistant Director for International Student Services at CIP since 1999. Prior to coming to SJU she was the International Student Advisor at Philadelphia's ELS Language Center for five years and at New York University for five years before that. Meryl studied abroad in Switzerland (one year), Austria (one semester) and England (one month). She also spent a year and a half working in Costa Rica. Her main responsibility at CIP is helping the international students understand the immigration regulations so that they can maintain their status and have a rewarding experience at SJU.
Aria Galletti, International Student Advisor
Aria Galletti joined CIP as the International Student Advisor in October 2012. In her position, she assists all international students with adjusting to life at SJU and maintaining their immigration status. She has been working with international students for the past ten years. Prior to her position at SJU, she taught English as a Second/Foreign Language in Russia, Honduras, San Francisco, and Boston. She holds undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Communications from Penn State University and a master’s degree in International and Multicultural Education from University of San Francisco. She has studied abroad in Spain, the UK, Argentina, and Mexico and has traveled to many other countries.
Kelly Horning, Assistant Director for Semester Abroad and Health & Safety
Kelly holds a BA in English from Elizabethtown College and a MS in Organizational Development and Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University. From 2002 to 2007, (first as a student worker and then as a full-time staff member) she worked for BCA Study Abroad, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace and justice through the international education experience.
In late 2007, she joined the SJU Center for International Programs as Study Abroad Advisor/Coordinator until 2012 when she became Assistant Director for Semester Abroad and Health & Safety. In this new position, Kelly is responsible for overseeing the administration of the university’s 34 affiliated semester abroad programs, non-SJU summer study abroad, as well as coordinating the health and safety preparedness of all students, faculty and staff participating in University-sponsored international travel.
Kelly studied abroad in Ireland, but she has also traveled to Spain, Chile, Argentina, China, Japan, Mexico and Tahiti.
Courtney Tomlinson, Study Abroad Advisor/Coordinator
As the newest member of the CIP staff, Courtney is the Study Abroad Advisor, assisting students through summer, semester, and yearlong study abroad programs. Before arriving at Hawk Hill, she taught English in Changsha, Hunan, China with the organization WorldTeach. As an undergraduate, Courtney spent a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) and attended service-learning trips to Leon, Nicaragua and Singapore. Courtney earned a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Gettysburg College. Passionate about international education and travel, she has visited 25 countries, and welcomes suggestions for her next destination!
Mary Anne Kucserik, Assistant Director of Study Abroad
Mary Anne joined CIP in 2008 with 20+ years of Foreign Language teaching experience and prior background as Director or Co-Director of Study Abroad. In addition, she has worked as a Corporate Foreign Language Expat Trainer and Translator. Having studied abroad 4 times in France and traveled extensively to 24 countries, she is knowledgeable in 4 languages and ESL. In her current position as Assistant Director of Study Abroad, she manages trip logistics and related operations for the SJU faculty-led Study Tours and Summer Programs.
Lindsey Martin, Coordinator for Study Abroad
Lindsey is the Coordinator for Study Abroad, providing assistance and support with the coordination and administration of all SJU sponsored Summer and Study Tour programs. She is the first point of contact for students wishing to participate in a SJU program. Before coming to SJU, she taught English in Creil, France with the TAPIF program and was a Latin America Teacher Quality Coordinator at WorldTeach in Boston. She has a B.A. in both International Relations and French from SUNY Geneseo, where she participated in summer study abroad to Paris and led a service-learning trip to Kakamega, Kenya.
