The MBA program offers a number of scholarships to highly-qualified fully accepted Graduate students. Generally, students who are offered these fellowships conduct research for a specific academic department and maintain their position (pending departmental review) for the duration of their degree.
Compensation and time requirements vary by department. In the Graduate Business Office, for example, assistants work 16 hours/week, receive tuition credits for eight (8) courses per year (3 Fall; 3 Spring; 2 Summer), and receive an annual stipend totaling $4,000. Thus, the value of a Graduate Assistantship is approximately $22,000.
Graduate Assistants perform tasks assigned by their supervisor. Although tasks vary according to departmental needs, previous duties have included tabulating surveys, developing monthly newsletters, and dealing with both potential and current students. Mutually agreeable schedules will be arranged within each department. Graduate Assistants are required to work all weeks during which classes are scheduled (and any other dates deemed necessary by the department). Graduate Assistants must be students in good standing that are fully accepted into an SJU Graduate Program and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above to retain their appointment.
